Why Do Women Love to Shop?

January 13, 2009 by Tera

Most women find shopping enjoyable. Not only do they love to shop for themselves but for their children and spouse as well. Women will tell you that shopping is therapy for them when they are feeling depressed. Going to the store or purchasing items online is a way to uplift their spirits, making them feel better. It’s also a way to ease boredom. Some women think, analyze, and compare when shopping while others buy on impulse.

More Ways to Shop

Shopping has taken on a new meaning. There was a time when you had to drive to the store, browse the racks, and purchase your clothing. Nowadays you can shop on the Internet, via a cell phone, and on television. Women are no longer left with one way of shopping. Product manufacturers are paying more attention to style and form, and marketers are shifting away from TV ads in favor of promotional efforts in venues women trust: reviews in women’s magazines and spots on TV shows like Oprah and Extreme Makeover -Home Edition.

Online is one of the fastest growing ways for purchasing retail because it can be done from the comfort of your own home or anywhere there’s an Internet connection. You can browse catalogs by choosing departments, size, colors, styles, and more. You can also pay by credit or debit card, making it even more convenient for practically anyone to purchase just about anything.

Clothing can be delivered to your door or you can arrange to have it picked up at your job or the store nearest you. Even if it is not the right size or fit, you can return the item to the store, and have it shipped back to your home. Stores will usually exchange it without you paying twice for shipping and handling. But there is one item women are known to shop for more than anything else.

If The Shoe Fits

Women have shoes for just about every occasion under the sun, from work to play and everything in between. For every dress, skirt, slacks, cargo pants, jeans, shorts, and bathing suit, a woman will have or search for the perfect shoes to match. Women need several pairs of shoes for employment depending on the outfit and the nature of the job. Also comfort-ability plays a major role in shoe selection for employment.

There is no doubt that women love shoes. Even when they are shopping for other items, they end up in the shoe department. ‘Shoe sales’ are like a ‘mating call’ for women. They tend to scour the aisles grabbing as many pairs of shoes as they can carry, trying on each pair one at a time while picking the first pair and all others that follow.

High Heel shoes are possibly the most sought out shoe for women because magazine and television ads are relentless in putting women in high heel shoes while wearing an evening gown or a bikini. Either way, they make a woman look taller and sexier, and control her walk, which helps her posture to straighten. Heels give the woman a statuesque feel and subconsciously give her more confidence. The shoe fetish is summed up in the hit HBO television series ‘Sex in the Citywhich is a theme that runs throughout the series. High heels lend curves, length, and muscle definition (especially in the calves which are in a perpetual flexed state) in all the right ways to accentuate constructed feminine sexuality.

A Natural High

In a poll of 1,000 women participants, it was found that 61 percent would rather abstain from sex for a month than lose their favorite article of clothing. Women have a strong desire for shopping because anticipating a new garment or favorite garment makes their heart beat faster, their palms sweat, and adrenaline increases. It seems they often feel the same excitement when anticipating their ’sweetheart’.
